Municipality of Burgas builds about 60 km bikeways

"We are doing everything depends on us as a municipality to allow residents and guests of the city to feel comfortable and safe when using bicycle." That said, the mayor of Burgas - Dimitar Nikolov during the ceremony "Groundbreaking" for the project "Construction of a network of bicycle paths outside the route of the bus rapid transit line - Stage 1 (within the downtown and adjacent neighborhoods of the city. Burgas )"on the project "Integrated Urban Transport of Burgas". He pointed out that in addition to the good childhood memories that everyone keeps this type of transport is environmentally friendly, especially in cities with heavy traffic.
 
During the ceremony, was presented specially created book for Opinions and recommendations that will store the impressions of residents and visitors in relation to the implementation of the project. The goal is to build an integrated system of bicycle paths that will bind more remote neighborhoods with downtown and the various functional areas of the city. Building activities for creation of cycling network with a total length of 59.8 km., will be implemented in four main construction contracts. The contractor of the first contract ("Construction of a network of bicycle paths outside the route of the bus rapid transit line - Stage 1 (within the downtown and adjacent neighborhoods of the city)") is a '' Patstroy - Burgas '' EOOD.
 
The project has a total value of 130 894 784.10 lev and is funded by the Operational Program "Regional Development" 2007 - 2013, co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund and the state budget of the Republic of Bulgaria. Implementation of the project "Integrated Urban Transport of Burgas" covers several key components related to the modernization of public transport: the bus fleet renewal, reconstruction and renovation of the station and terminals, BRT line, establishing a system of bicycle paths, creation of integrated management systems of public transport. Successful implementation of the project will create conditions for improved mobility for people, reduce traffic congestion and greenhouse gas emissions, improve the safety of public transport.
